My approach to psychotherapy and counselling is based in Existential Philosophy. Existential refers to every situation that confronts us with the facts of life and Philosophy means to be in love with wisdom.
Fundamental questions regarding the meaning of life are seldom posed nowadays. To live in the city we ought to be productive, efficient, fast! We take for granted that as long as we are active and achieve the standard goals everything will be fine.
The truth breaks through anyhow. It is only when the car doesn’t start in the morning on the way to work, that we realise how much we need it. With our health it’s just the same: we realise how good it is to have some fresh air or a good rest, or what a loving hug can do for us only when we have previously felt suffocated, exhausted or lonely.
We know that machines break when we do not switch them off but we forget that, in order to have balance ourselves, we have to learn to switch off all activity. We readily busy ourselves with work and social duties and forget to set aside time to reflect on what is going on within us.
Existential Therapy can facilitate a space and a time to allow us to stop reading from the scripts written by others. By focusing on ourselves we can begin to compose and write our own lines.
The relationship with a therapist can give you the inspiration to remember who you really are, what you really want, and how to make the relevant choices to make it happen. |
